I can see the hard drive, I can see the files. However, when I try to copy
the files to another HD, it cannot read source. It was backed up but that
was several months ago. I was getting around to backing it up again but
obviously didn't do it in time. No warning before it crashed.

Any ideas on data recovery?

If you can see the files, perhaps try booting up with an OS like Puppy
Linux that runs from CD. Then try to copy the files to the other hard
drive.

Just wanted to post an update. We have managed to get about 75% of the
files back. There is one folder that it will not pick up so I imagine that
is where the biggest problem is. Unfortunately, it has some pics and videos
of our little one. Thankfully most of them were stored where we were able
to retrieve them. We had to use several different programs to retrieve the
files. Puppy Linux was one of them. It found a few but there was another
program that found a lot more. I forget the name but will come back and
post when I am back at home to get it and post it here in case someone else
is foolish enough like me to not do regular backups. Lesson learned!

Thanks for all the help people!

Well, if you have important things like videos of your child, hold on
to that drive. I have some tools that may help retrieve more, if you
would like my help. Send me an email if you're interested.
