Hi All,

My parents just recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 installed.
I also have Windows 7. In the past, while using WinXP, I would use Remote
Connection and connect to their computer (they live out of town) to solve
whatever problem they would have, as they are pretty basic in their computer
usage skills. Now with Windows 7, I was wondering how I would be able to do
the same as in the past.

WinXP Remote Connection would connect through a Windows Live username and
password. However, with Windows 7 it prompts me to enter a computer name,
and I have no idea what this is all about.

Anyone know how I would go about using this??

Any and all help would be appreciated.

U need to know the username they use to log into the pc wiht and it must
have a password. I hate having to log into my own computers so I use
logmein on my family computers and just use teamviewer on other pcs.

Teamviewer is pretty simple, u send them the file or they download it,
they tell u the id and password and thats it. Logmein is faster and
better looking but is just a tad harder to setup.

Both are free services

7 uses a new RDP client and is more secure. on the win7 machine, make
sure the user account has a password. and you also need to set the
option to "allow connection from any computer using any version of
RDP" with out this setting selected,xp or any other RDP client won't
be able to connect to windows 7

this should fix your problem.

cheers

I believe it just means you need an account on the remote PC with
access. When you login, you login referencing that account with
"computername\username".
